Lasers Remain Dominant in GNAC Play; Down Rivier 12-4

NEWTON, Mass. (4/15/17) -- The Lasell College men's lacrosse remained undefeated in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play following a 12-4 victory over the visiting Raiders of Rivier University on Saturday afternoon at Grellier Field.

The Lasers secured their eighth straight victory to improve to 8-2, and 5-0 in the GNAC, while the Raiders drop to 7-5, and 2-2 in conference play.

Lasell saw nine different players score in the victory, including Ryan Madden (Hingham, Mass.) who led with four goals, and one assist.  Darien Clay (Newton, Mass.) capped off a dominant first quarter for the Lasers, scoring his second career goal giving the Lasers a 4-0 lead.

Rivier finally got on the board as Kyle Newman (Merrimack, N.H.) scored with 2:47 remaining in the second quarter. Colby Larsen (Windham, N.H.) and William Ryan (Dorchester, Mass.) contributed for the Raiders, cutting the Lasers' lead to 7-3 going into halftime.

Out of the break, Larsen would score a fourth straight Raiders goal at 10:24, but were then held scoreless for the remainder of the game.

Hilmar Smith (Portland, Maine), Austin Tomassetti (Elmsford, N.Y.), and William Gillis (Reading, Mass) all contributed goals in the second half to give the Lasers a 12-4 lead.

Senior Jorge Salazar (Waltham, Mass.) made nine saves for the Lasers enroute to his seventh victory (7-2), while Rivier's Matt Cloutman (Peabody, Mass.) reached a new career high with 21 saves for the Raiders.

Peter Dolan (Pearl River N.Y.) dominated at the face-off x for the Lasers going 12-16, while Daniel Gorman (Wilbraham, Mass.) went 1-1 and Chase Swift (Branford, Conn.) 1-3. Chris Penne (insert town) and Newman went each went 3-10 for the Raiders.

Lasell is on the road on Monday, April 17 at 5:30 p.m. in a non-conference showdown versus Trinity College, while Rivier travels to GNAC foe Emmanuel on Tuesday April 18 at 7:00pm.
