Lasers Take Top Spot in GNAC with 16-10 Win over JWU

NEWTON, Mass. (4/11/17) -- The Lasell College men's lacrosse team remained undefeated in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play, following a 16-10 victory against the previously untouched Wildcats from Johnson & Wales on Wednesday afternoon at Grellier Field. 

The Lasers move to 7-2 overall and take over first place in the GNAC standings with a perfect 4-0 mark, while the Wildcats are now 9-4 on the season and 3-1 in conference play. 

Sophomore Austin Shindoll (Denver, Colo.) and senior Josh Gallant (Hampstead, N.H.) each registered six points to lead Lasell's offense. Shindoll scored five times on just six shots on goal for his second consecutive hat trick, while Gallant scored four. Senior Jorge Salazar (Waltham, Mass.) made 16 stops to earn the victory.

Junior Max Stone (Burlington, Conn.) led the Wildcats with four goals and an assist. Freshman Bradley Morris (Bayport, N.Y.) made 10 saves for JWU, falling to 8-3. 

Shindoll secured his hat trick in just the first 15 minutes. Gallant scored Lasell's first goal of the game before Shindoll scored the next two, giving Lasell a 3-0 lead. Three different JWU scorers leveled the score, but Shindoll quickly responded with 3:37 left in the quarter to give Lasell the one-goal lead. 

Four different players scored the Lasers' four second-quarter goals, with Shindoll extending the Lasers' lead to three with just 39 seconds to play before halftime. Senior Hilmar Smith (Portland, Maine) assisted on the goal for the first time this season. 

The teams traded a pairs of goals in the third, with Gallant and fellow senior Anthony Saitta (Derry, N.H.) scoring back-to-back in the opening half of the frame. JWU's Stone scored with 3:49 and four seconds remaining to make the score 10-7, but the Lasers would dominate the final quarter offensively to earn the win.

Five Lasers got on the board in the frame, including sophomore Austin Tomasetti (Elmsford, N.Y.) who scored a pair. Tomasetti scored an unassisted goal with 5:55 left to put Lasell up by a 14-7 count. 

JWU earned 19 of 29 wins at the faceoff X, in substantial part to Hunter Guzzo's (Wantage, N.J.) 16. For the Lasers, Chase Swift (Branford, Conn.), Pete Dolan (Pearl River, N.Y.), and Daniel Gorman (Wilbraham, Mass.) combined for ten. 

The Lasers return to home turf action on Saturday, April 15 at 1:00 p.m. against Rivier, while the Wildcats have a GNAC home contest against Mount Ida, beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18.
