Susi Sends Men's Lacrosse Over Mount Ida 11-10

NEWTON, Mass -- The Lasell College men's lacrosse team knocked off Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) rival Mount Ida College on the road at Alumni Field 11-10 on Thursday evening. The Lasers improve to 5-2 on the season, including 2-0 in the GNAC after dropping their first two games. Mount Ida drops to 6-4, and 1-1 in conference play. 

With the game tied at 10-10 and 1:05 left on the game clock, Michael Susi (Gorham, Maine) added his third goal of the game, the deciding factor in the victory.

Austin Tomasetti (Elmsford, N.Y.), Josh Gallant (Hampstead, N.H.), and Ryan Madden (Hingham, Mass.) each contributed two goals apiece in the victory.

Mount Ida answered back in the second, as Marcus Donahue (Braintree, Mass.), Da'zhon Johnston (Southhampton, Bermuda) and Peter Hardy (Tyngsboro, Mass.) brought the Mustangs to within one, with the Lasers leading 5-4 going into halftime.

Lasell came out of the break rattling off three straight goals as Austin Shindoll (Denver, Colo.) gave the Lasers an 8-4 lead with 10:49 remaining in the third, but Mount Ida refused to back down. Chad Coelho (Salem, Mass.) answered back with two third quarter goals, to cut the Lasers' lead 9-8 heading into the final stanza.

In the fourth, Matt Hoffman (Brewster, N.Y.) and Donahue scored game-tying goals, but Mount Ida couldn't put themselves in the lead. Susi added two late fourth quarter goals, including the game-winner, capping off a hat-trick on the afternoon.

Jorge Salazar (Waltham, Mass.) had 18 saves for the Lasers in the conference victory, including a last second push from the Mustangs' offense. Mount Ida's Cam Hayward (Derry, N.H.) added 15 for the Mustangs.

Mount Ida won the face-off battle going 14-23 from the X led by Alex Zito (Andover, Conn.), while Chase Swift (Branford, Conn.) went 8-19 for the Lasers.

Lasell beat out Mount Ida 38-35 on ground balls led by Connor Johnson (Hampstead, N.H.) and Travis Duhamel (Deerfield, N.H) who scooped six and five respectfully.  The Mustangs outshot the Lasers 45-39.

The Lasers return to action Saturday afternoon at home against GNAC foe Albertus Magnus at 2:30PM. The Mustangs also return to action on Saturday in a home non-conference match-up with Dean College at 1:00PM.
