Saitta, Shindoll Lead Men's Lacrosse Over Wentworth 13-9

BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Anthony Saitta (Derry, N.H.) and sophomore Austin Shindoll (Denver, Colo.) scored three goals apiece as the Lasell College men's lacrosse team defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology, 13-9, in non-conference play at Sweeney Field. Winners of two straight and its first since game since March 8, the Lasers improve to 2-2 while the Leopards fall to 4-2.

Wentworth took an early lead on a man-up goal from sophomore Jack Zaylor (Hanover, Mass.) 2:54 into the contest. That goal would be the only marker for the next 8:32 before freshman Kyle Doner (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) gave the hosts a 2-0 lead. Lasell cut the lead to 2-1 on a junior Michael Susi (Gorham, Maine) goal 42 ticks later, however Doner found classmate Mark Howland (Lititz, Pa.) with 1:41 left to make it 3-1.

Lasell scored the next three goals and took a 4-3 lead on a sophomore William Gillis (Reading, Mass.) goal with 9:01 left. The Leopards responded with three straight to take a 6-4 lead on a senior Mike Coakley (Flemington, N.J.) goal with 3:11 left. However, the Lasers would score three times in the final 59 seconds of the first half, including on a Saitta goal with one second left, to take a 7-6 lead at the break.

The Lasers scored the only three goals of the third quarter as junior Alex McCormack-Kuhman (Wells, Maine) had a goal and two assists, Saitta had a goal and an assist, and Susi had a goal to give the visitors a 10-6 advantage.

A man-up goal from sophomore Jason Buck (Manlius, N.Y.) pulled Wentworth within three at 10-7 and the Leopards would come back within three (11-8) on a sophomore Spencer Allen (New Boston, N.H.) goal with 7:42 remaining. Lasell distanced itself with a pair of goals 13 seconds apart to help seal the win.

McCormack-Kuhman finished with a goal and two assists, Susi had two goals, and junior Austin Tomasetti (Elmsford, N.Y.) and sophomore Madden each had a goal and an assist. Senior Chase Swift (Branford, Conn.) had eight ground balls and was 17-of-24 at the X while senior Connor Johnson (Hampstead, N.H.) had eight ground balls.

Buck had two goals for the Leopards while Doner and Coakley had a goal and two assists apiece. Freshman Riley Smith (Plaistow, N.H.) had a goal and an assist. Sophomore Sean Brennan (had seven ground balls and four caused turnovers.

Senior Jorge Salazar (Waltham, Mass.) finished with nine saves, including seven in the fourth quarter. Junior Adam Dufault (Lexington, Mass.) made 13 stops for the Black & Gold. Lasell had a 32-30 shot advantage and a 44-36 advantage in ground balls.

Lasell will host Southern Maine on Sunday, March 26 in a game dedicated to The White Ribbon Campaign. The non-conference tilt is slated for 1:00 p.m.
