Men's Lacrosse Out-Scores Husson 11-2 in Non-League Win

NEWTON, Mass. (3/16/16) – The Lasell College men's lacrosse team picked up their third straight non-conference victory on Wednesday afternoon with an 11-2 result over visiting Husson University. The win pushes the Lasers record to 3-1 on the season, while Husson slips to 0-3 overall.

Senior Pat Egan (Glen Rock, N.J.) tallied a career-high six assists in the contest while orchestrating the Lasers attack, junior Josh Gallant (Hampstead, N.H.) posted his second straight four goal performance, and junior Anthony Saitta (Derry, N.H.) added three goal and one assist for the Lasers. Jorge Salazar (Waltham, Mass.) stopped five shots while picking up his third win of the season in the net. Junior Chase Swift (Branford, Conn.) won 12 out of 14 from the faceoff spot, and also tied for the team lead with Connor Johnson (Hampstead, N.H.) with six ground balls. Freshmen David Sheehan (Tewksbury, Mass.) caused a game-high 6 turnovers to bring his team-leading total to 13 on the season.

Jack White (Barnstable, Mass.) and Brooks Gay (Underhill, Vt.) each netted goals for Husson, and Brett Martin (Topsham, Maine) chipped in with an assist. Goalkeeper Matt Martin (Litchfield, Maine) stopped 22 shots in the contest, helping keep Husson within striking distance, and Vinny Visconti (North Andover, Mass.) and Devin Campbell (Sidney, Maine) each scooped up four groundballs for the Eagles.

Lasell got on the board in the second minute of play when Egan found Saitta with a feed and the junior midfielder buried an early chance to put the hosts in from 1-0. Egan setup Gallant four minutes later to help Lasell to a 2-0 lead, and then the New Jersey native fed classmate Casey Sullivan for his fifth goal of the season with just over a minute to play, making it 3-0 at the break. A pair of Saitta goals in the second quarter sent Lasell into the halftime intermission with a 5-0 lead.

An unassisted goal by Brooks Gay pulled Husson with four goals at 5-1 with five minutes remaining in the third period, but Lasell regained their five goal cushion when Egan set up Ryan Madden with 36 seconds left in the third to make it 6-1 for Lasell. Lasell outscored Husson 5-1 over the final 15 minutes, on their way to the 11-2 victory. Lasell outshot Husson 55-17 over the course of the game, and won the groundball battle 36-19. Husson hung tough behind some strong goaltending by Martin, as well as a good penalty killing unit, holding Lasell to just 2 goals in 8 man-up situations.

Husson will be back in action on Saturday March 19th when they host Regis College at 3 p.m, while the Lasers will visit Southern Maine for a 7:00 tilt.
