Leopards Edge Men's Lacrosse 19-10 in Regular Season Finale

BOSTON, Mass. – The Lasell College fell to the Wentworth Institute of Technology in non-conference men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at Sweeney Field. The Lasers wrap up their season at 8-6, while the Wildcats win their second straight game to stand at 9-6.

The Lasers jumped on top less than a minute into the action with a goal from junior Andrew Suh (Colchester, Conn.). Halfway through the first, junior Alec Paradis (Pelham, N.H.) tied the game at one. Junior Casey Sullivan (Quaker Hill, Conn.) responded with a goal 23 seconds later to put Lasell back up 2-1, however the Leopard offense picked up and scored four straight goals to end the first quarter up 5-2.  Senior Ryan Coakley (Flemington, N.J.) Coakley scored a trio of goals and senior Michael Cushera (Waltham, Mass.) tallied on a goal in the first quarter run.

Sullivan scored his second of the game to start the second quarter to make it 5-3, but Wentworth responded by scoring five straight. Paradis scored unassisted at 10:59 to start the Leopard run before junior Nick Parent (Windham, N.H.) joined in on the scoring four minutes later to make it 7-3. Paradis picked up the assist on Parent's marker to become the 12th player in program history to register 100 career points. Cushera, Coakley, and Paradis scored afterward to give Wentworth the 10-3 lead at half.

Parent started the scoring in the third to make it 11-3. He later added another goal in the third to give him 18 on the season. Senior Robbie Palazzo (Redding, Conn.) and Sullivan added a pair for the Lasers, while senior Dylan Fernandes (Billerica, Mass.) scored his seventh goal of the year. Senior Conor Rielly (Upton, Mass.) scored his first goal of the season, as the Leopards held a 13-8 lead at the end of the third.

Paradis and Coakley added a pair of goals in the fourth quarter, while senior Dillon Lynch (Southwick, Mass.) and Cushera each scored once. Lasell scored twice more in the fourth, with sophomores Anthony Saitta (Derry, N.H.) and Josh Gallant (Hampstead, N.H.) each putting a shot to the back of the net.

Paradis finished with a career high five goals while adding a pair of assists. Cushera and Parent finished with three goals each. Cushera also added a pair of assists and Paradis scooped up a game-high nine ground balls. Sophomore Eric Iacaboni (Sterling, Mass.) had eight ground balls and classmate Ty Trebbe (Wilbraham, Mass.) won 17 of 28 at the X while junior James Caldwell (New Milford, Conn.) caused five turnovers.

Sullivan led the way for the Lasers with four goals and an assist while Palazzo (two goals), senior Austin LaPorte (Gorham, Maine) had two assists, and Gallant had a goal and an assist. Sophomore Chase Swift (Branford, Conn.), who won nine face-offs, had seven ground balls and freshman Travis Duhamel (Deerfield, Conn.) caused five turnovers.

Freshman goalie Adam Dufault (Lexington, Mass.) earned the win with 12 saves. Junior counterpart David Walen (Longmeadow, Mass.) stopped 10 shots in his 44 minutes in net. Junior Chris Thomas-Ikier (Burlington, Mass.) made two saves in 16 minutes minutes at goal.

The Lasers host Rivier University on Tuesday, April 21at 3:30 p.m. in the GNAC Quarterfinal round, while Wentworth wraps up the regular season on Wednesday, as the Leopards host Commonwealth Coast Conference foe Western New England at 4 p.m.
