Men's Lacrosse Blanks AMCATS 22-0 on Senior Day

NEWTON, Mass. (4/11/15) – The Lasell College men's lacrosse team honored its seven graduating seniors before cruising past Anna Maria College, 22-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon at Grellier Field. With the win, the Lasers improve to 8-4 overall and 5-2 in the conference, while Anna Maria falls to 1-13 this spring and 0-6 in the GNAC.

Seniors Derek Marshall (Cumberland, R.I.), Joe Cunning (Newton, Mass.), Aaron LaPorte (Gorham, Maine), Mike Dupont (Dover, N.H.), Jason Donovan (Weymouth, Mass.), Gordon Roberts (Dover, N.H.), and Robbie Palazzo (Redding, Conn.) have represented the Lasell College men's lacrosse program with leadership and dedication, and we wish them luck in their future.

Lasell was paced by freshman Alex McCormack-Kuhman (Wells, Maine) who registered his first career multi-goal game with four markers, while LaPorte and Donovan both tallied hat tricks this afternoon. The Lasers also received two goals apiece from sophomore Anthony Saitta (Derry, N.H.) and freshman Evan Doherty (LaGrangeville, N.Y.), while eight other Lasers potted single goals in the matchup.

The Lasers jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first quarter as LaPorte guided the offense with his hat trick that came over a span of 7:06 to open the stanza. Lasell added six more goals in the second half highlighted by three markers s in under a minute midway through the quarter to lead 16-0 at the break.

Lasell found the cage six more times, once on a shorthanded situation, in the second half to close the contest by a final score of 22-0. Lasers' sophomore Hilmar Smith (Portland, Maine) recorded his first goal of the season to cap the scoring in the fourth quarter.

Lasers' junior goalkeeper Chris Thomas-Ikier (Burlington, Mass.) improved his record to 3-0 this spring with one save over the first half, while sophomore Jorge Salazar (Waltham, Mass.) stopped a season-high four saves off the bench in the second half.

Anna Maria junior goalkeeper Zachary Sylvia (Tiverton, R.I.) made 13 saves for the AMCATS this afternoon.

Defensively, Lasers sophomore Chase Swift (Branford, Conn.) picked up a game-high seven ground balls, while Marshall and freshman Brendan Dwyer (Northport, N.Y.) both scooped up five ground balls apiece.

Lasell outshot Anna Maria 50-7, scooped up 58 ground balls, went 21-for-25 on face-offs and went 12-for-13 in transition. 

Lasell travels to cross-town and conference rival Mount Ida on Tuesday, April 14 at 3:30 p.m., while Anna Maria hosts GNAC foe Albertus Magnus on the same day at 7:00 p.m.
