Men's Lacrosse Defeats Centenary, 21-1, in First Game of Texas Trip

GEORGETOWN, Texas (3/15/2015) – The Lasell College men's lacrosse team used twelve different goal scorers to cruise past Centenary (LA) 21-1 on Sunday afternoon in the Lasers' first of two games in Texas this week. Lasell evened its record to 2-2 overall this season, while Centenary fell to 1-5.

Freshman Matt White (Falmouth, Mass.) netted his first career collegiate goal en route to his first career hat trick, while classmate Evan Doherty (LaGrangeville, N.Y.) and junior Andrew Suh (Colchester, Conn.) each registered hat tricks of their own this afternoon.  Senior Joe Cunning (Newton, Mass.), sophomore Josh Gallant (Hampstead, N.H.) and freshman William Brown (North Reading, Mass.) all found the back of the cage twice. Seniors Derek Marshall (Cumberland, R.I.) and Aaron LaPorte (Gorham, Maine), junior Jason Donovan (Weymouth, Mass.), sophomore Andrew Saitta (Derry, N.H.) and Connor Johnson (Hampstead, N.H.) and freshman Alex McCormack-Kuhman (Wells, Maine) each tallied a single goal to round out the scoring for Lasell.

The Lasers scored the game's first 15 goals before Centenary's lone goal was scored by junior Spencer Nelson (Shreveport, La.) with 9:28 to play in the fourth quarter. Lasell's effort was highlighted by White's first career goal at the 7:37 mark in the final stanza, which was followed up by two more consecutive goals in a 54-second span for his first career hat trick.

Lasell was also able to convert twice on the man-up advantage. Once at the 7:57 mark in the second quarter when Gallant scored his first goal of the season on a feed from Doherty and again with 10:50 to play in the game when Cunning found the back of the net via a pass from freshman Austin Tomasetti (Elmsford, N.Y.). Tomasetti also tallied his first career points for the Lasers with three assists this afternoon.

Lasell junior goalkeeper Chris Thomas-Ikier (Burlington, Mass.) recorded his second win of the season in as many starts and made five saves in the first half, while sophomore Jorge Salazar (Waltham, Mass.) made three saves in the second half for the Lasers. Centenary goalkeeper Coulton Toups (Lufkin, Texas) registered 15 saves in the effort for the hosts.

Defensively, Donovan and Doherty paced Lasell with five ground balls apiece, while freshman Eddie Stokes (Billerica, Mass.) scooped up four ground balls and caused a career and game-high four turnovers. Junior Max Beilke (Harwood, Vt.) and Toups led Centenary with 10 and nine ground balls, respectively.

The Lasers went 20-for-23 on clearing attempts and 12-for-26 from the face-off mark highlighted by Donovan's 5-for-9 performance. Lasell also held a 59-43 margin in ground balls and a 54-17 differential in shots.

Lasers' head coach Tim Dunton earned his 100th win of his coaching career at Lasell with today's 21-1 victory over Centenary. Dunton has coached the Lasers since 2003 combining for an overall record of 100-91 and 60-34 in conference play. Dunton led Lasell to the ECAC Championship game in 2008 and made an appearance in the GNAC Championship game back in 2011. 

Lasell remains in Texas for a matchup with Southwestern on Tuesday, March 17 at 7:00 p.m., while Centenary hosts Dallas on Saturday, March 21 at 1:00 p.m.
