Men's Lacrosse Turns Away UMaine Farmington 22-1

NEWTON, Mass. (3/8/2015) – The Lasell College men's lacrosse team defeated UMaine-Farmington 22-1 in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at Grellier Field. With the win, the Lasers improved to 1-1 this season, while the Beavers dropped to 0-2 overall.

Fourteen different student-athletes scored for Lasell, highlighted by freshman attack Evan Doherty (LaGrangeviile, N.Y.) who netted his first collegiate career goal on the way to his first career hat trick. Juniors Casey Sullivan (Quaker Hill, Conn.), Jason Donovan (Weymouth, Mass.), Pat Egan (Glen Rock, N.J.), senior Mike Dupont (Dover, N.H.), and freshman John Enright (North Andover, Mass.) each potted a pair of goals this afternoon for Lasell as well. Dupont paced the Lasers with a career-high five assists, while Swift and Egan each registered three assists apiece.

UMaine-Farmington's lone goal was scored by junior midfielder Cameron McAllister (Yarmouth, Maine) on a feed from freshman attack Chase Rerrick (South Portland, Maine) on the man-up advantage midway through the third quarter. Defensively, McAllister led the Beavers with five ground balls, while senior midfielder Zack Rowland (Fryeburg, Maine), Rerrick and freshman Sean Zubrod each scooped up four ground balls.

As a team, the Lasers were 19-for-27 from the face-off circle and 18-for-23 on clearing attempts. Lasell also held a 68-25 differential in ground balls and was a perfect 3-for-3 on man-up opportunities.

Lasell junior goalkeeper Chris Thomas-Ikier (Burlington, Mass.) picked up his first win of the season as he stopped all four shots on net, while sophomore Jorge Salazar (Waltham, Mass.) saved a pair of shots in relief over the second half.

Beavers' goalkeeper Joseph Maldonado (Fresno, Calif.) made 15 saves in 52:30 in the cage, while sophomore Ronie Morales (Houston, Texas) saved a pair of shots over the remaining 7:30 of the game.

The Lasers scored ten goals over the opening quarter en route to an eventual 22-1 victory. Junior attack Andrew Suh (Colchester, Conn.) kicked off the game with a goal at the 13:36 mark on a feed from Sullivan to take a 1-0 lead. Sullivan scored his two goals in the first stanza, the first from Egan at 9:27 and the second via Suh just 1:06 later. Lasell capitalized on its first chance on the man-up advantage when sophomore midfielder Anthony Saitta (Derry, N.H.) potted his first of the game and gave Lasell a 9-0 lead with 2:08 left to play in the first.

Lasell went on to score six more tallies in the second quarter, which was highlighted by freshman Alex McCormack-Kuhman's (Wells, Maine) first career goal on the man-up advantage with 10:39 left on the clock giving the Lasers a 14-0 lead.

Up 17-0 in the third quarter, UMaine-Farmington got on the board when McAllister found the back of the cage with 11:55 to play in the third quarter. The Lasers held the Beavers scoreless for the remainder of the game, but added five more goals to close the game 22-1.

Defensively for the Lasers, Dupont picked up a game-high eight ground balls, while freshman Antoine Caparotta-LaGrant (Rockland, Mass.) and classmate Brendan Dwyer (Northport, N.Y.) scooped up seven and six ground balls, respectively.

Lasell hosts Plymouth State on Wednesday, March 11 at 3:00 p.m. in a non-conference matchup, while UMaine-Farmington travels to Saint Joseph's (Me.) for an out of league contest next Monday, March 16 at 4:00 p.m.
