Lasers Goalie Walen Leads NCAA Division III in Save Percentage

NEWTON, Mass. (7/23/14) - Lasell College junior goalkeeper David Walen (Longmeadow, Mass.) finished the 2014 men's lacrosse season with the top save percentage in Division III, saving .667 percent of the shots he faced on goal. He edged out Ryan Duffy of SUNY Potsdam, who finished at .659 for the Division III honors. Walen's mark was not just the top mark in Division III, but also bested the marks sets by the Division I (Jason Weber - Detroit - .642) and Division II (Brad Bradenburg - Colorado Mesa - .617) statistical champions.

Walen ranked 10th in the country in goals allowed per game, yielding a scant 6.62 goals an outing while helping the Lasers to an 11-6 mark and a 9-1 record in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. Walen becomes the third player in the history of the Lasell men's lacrosse program to hold the distinction of NCAA single season statistical champion, joining fellow netminder Mark Demieri who also set the save percentage mark in 2005 and Lou Lucchetti who led the country in assists per game in 2003.
