Men's Lacrosse Down Mount Ida 6-4

NEWTON, Mass. (3/26/14) – The Lasell College men's lacrosse team handed Mount Ida College their first defeat in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play, capturing a 6-4 victory at Grellier Field on Wednesday afternoon. The Lasers improved to 4-3 overall and 3-0 in GNAC games while Mount Ida slipped to 5-4 on the season and 3-1 in league contests,

Pat Egan (Glen Rock, N.J.) and Andrew Suh (Colchester, Conn.) each scored two goals and added one assist for Lasell, while Joe Cunning (Newton, Mass.) and Aaron LaPorte (Gorham, Maine) each added a goal for the Lasers. David Walen (Longmeadow, Mass.) made 11 saves in the victory to earn the win in the cage for the Lasers.

JT Hoyt (Westfield, Mass.) finished with a pair of goals for Mount Ida and Peter Hardy (Tyngsboro, Mass.) and Jon Berry (Chichester, N.H.) each added a goal and an assist. Kyle Cordaro (Worcester, Mass.) took the loss in goal for the Mustangs despite making 15 saves in the game.

The game got off to a slow start with both teams feeling each other out and Mount Ida took a 1-0 lead when Jon Berry found JT Hoyt just before the end of the quarter for a man-up goal. Jon Berry made it 2-0 in favor of the Mustangs with his goal with 9:27 left in the quarter on a feed from Zach Rosen (East Greenwich, R.I.). Lasell bounced back with a pair of goals, an unassisted tally from Suh when he scooped up the rebound on a shot and finished it at the 7:36 mark then Dylan Gray (Bayport, N.Y.) found Egan for the equalizer at the 5:12 mark to send it to the half at 2-2.

Egan put the Lasers in front three minutes into the third period but Mount Ida came right back with an unassisted goal at the 10:41 mark tying the score at 3-3. Cunning put the Lasers in front 4-3 on a pass from Egan with just over seven minutes left and Lasell tallied again seconds later when Casey Sullivan (Waterford, Conn.) found Suh on the back side to give Lasell a 5-3 lead.

Aaron LaPorte gave Lasell a three goal cushion on a pass from Suh three minutes into the fourth period and Lasell was able to fend off a late push by Mount Ida only allowing one goal to Hoyt with 2:40 remaining to take the victory 6-4.

Mount Ida will host Albertus Magnus on Saturday March 29th at 2:30 p.m. while Lasell will be back on the field on Saturday March 29th at 2:30 p.m. as well when they host Gordon College in non-conference action.
