Men's Lacrosse Tripped Up at RWU

BAYSIDE, R.I. (3/5/14) – The Lasell College men's lacrosse team was defeated by Roger Williams this afternoon, falling on the road to the Hawks 12-4. The Lasers slipped to 0-2 on the young season while RWU improved to 2-1 with the victory.

Casey Sullivan (Waterford, Conn.) tallied a goal and an assist for the Lasers, while Dylan Fernandes (Billerica, Mass.), Josh Gallant (Hampstead, N.H.) and Mike Dupont (Dover, N.H.) each recorded goals for Lasell as well. Chris Thomas-Ikier (Burlington, Mass.) made three saves in the loss and David Walen (Springfield, Mass.) played the second half in goal for Lasell stopping four shots. Lasell sophomore Jason Donovan (Weymouth, Mass.) went 9-14 on the face-off spot and scooped up five groundballs.

Tim Kelly netted a hat-trick for RWU and John Mills finished with two goals and an assist for the hosts. Will Siefert and Mike Hanna each notched a goal and two assists for the Hawks and Luke Aubrey made six saves to earn his second win of the season in net.

Roger Williams jumped out early scoring in the opening minute when Tim Kelly scored on a feed from Will Siefert then Siefert scored a goal of his own three minutes later to make it a 2-0 score. Kelley scored his second goal of the game with just under eight minutes to play in the quarter then Alan Williams scooped the face-off and scored again in transition to put the hosts up 4-0. Roger Williams added two more man-up goals to make it 6-0 going into the second quarter and then extended their lead to 8-0 with in the opening five minutes of the second period. Josh Gallant scored for Lasell with less than eight minutes left on a pass from Sullivan to get the Lasers on the board.

Roger Williams scored a pair of goals in the seven minutes of the third quarter and then Dylan Fernandes netted a goal for Lasell to make it 10-2. After RWU scored twice to open the fourth quarter Lasell used goals from DuPont and Sullivan to produce the 12-4 final margin.

The Lasers will open their Great Northeast Athletic Conference on Saturday March 8th at 2:30 p.m. when they host pre-season conference favorite Norwich University at Grellier Field.
