Men's Lacrosse Clipped at Wheaton

Norton, Mass. – Wheaton College senior Billy McNamara (Mansfield, Mass) buried six goals and dished out four assists to lead the Lyons to a 15-4 victory over Lasell College in non-conference action on Thursday evening at Mirrione Stadium. The victory improved Wheaton to 5-4 overall while Lasell dropped to 6-6 on the year.

McNamara tallied a season-high ten points for Wheaton and also added seven ground balls and one caused turnover. Sophomore Matthew Hillman (Brookline, Mass.) registered three markers and senior Will Compton (Deering, N.H.) and junior Cam Hanlon (Hanson, Mass.) had two goals each. Seniors Sean Doherty (East Lyme, Conn.) and Nik Hodosy-Brander (Santa Barbara, Calif.) rounded out the scoring with one tally apiece.

Lasell sophomore Andy Puopolo (Duxbury, Mass.) netted two goals to lead the Lasers attack. Classmates Dylan Fernandes (Billerica, Mass.) and Joe Cunning (Newton, Mass.) both chipped in with one marker.

McNamara gave the Lyons a 1-0 lead with 8:55 on the scoreboard in the first quarter on an unassisted tally for his 12th goal of the season. After Cunning responded for Lasell two minutes later to even the score at 1-1, Wheaton went on a 4-0 run to close out the opening 15 minutes of action.

A Doherty shot found the back of the net on a nice feed by Compton at 5:41 to take a 2-1 advantage. McNamara set up the next two goals for the Lyons dishing a pass to Compton at 4:43 while setting up Hillman for his first of three markers at 2:09.

A Puopolo doal with 12:44 on the clock in the second made it 5-2, but Wheaton netted five unanswered to take a 10-2 lead at the break. McNamara guided the offensive charge with three-straight goals over a 7:13 span for the Blue and White. Hillman started the scoring outburst at 11:08 and capped the run at 2:39 with a man-up goal.

Lyons' junior goalkeeper Harrison Bramhall (Barrington, R.I.) stopped a game-high 12 shots in 51:58 of action. Freshman goalkeeper Ryan Clair (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) made three saves and did not allow a goal in 8:02 of playing time. Lasell sophomore goalkeeper David Walen (Longmeadow, Mass.) had ten saves in the loss.

Wheaton takes on Wentworth on Saturday, April 13 on the road at 7 p.m. Lasell hosts Emerson on Saturday at 1 p.m.
