Lasell Stumbles Against Norwich in Men's Lacrosse

Newton, Mass. (4/2/13) – The Lasell College men's lacrosse team dropped their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference game of the season, 12-5 against Norwich University. Lasell slid to 4-5 on the year and 3-1 in the GNAC, while Norwich moved to 4-3 overall and remained perfect at 4-0 in league games.

Dylan Fernandes (Billerica, Mass.) netted three goals for the Lasers, and Andy Puopolo (Duxbury, Mass.) added a pair for the hosts. David Walen (Longmeadow, Mass.) made 16 saves while taking the loss in goal for Lasell.

Seth Fuller led the way for the Cadets with three goals and one assist, and Ryan McCarthy tallied twice for Norwich. Mark Paradiso stopped six of the 11 shots on frame he faced to earn the win in net.

The Cadets opened the game with a pair of goals less than a minute apart to go on top 2-0 with just over seven minutes remaining in the opening quarter. Lasell drew level on unassisted goals by Puopolo and Fernandes to tie the game at 2-2 going into the second quarter.

Norwich again took a two goal advantage by scoring twice in the opening five minutes of the second period to go on top 4-2. Fernandes found the back of the net with 44 seconds remaining on the clock to bring Lasell back within a goal at 4-3 heading into the half.

The Cadets scored three times in the third quarter while keeping Lasell off the board to open up a 7-3 lead going into the final period.

Puopolo notched his second of the contest to bring Lasell back with three with 13:40 left in the game, but Norwich put the game away with five unanswered goals building a 12-4 lead before Fernandes netted a late goal for the final 12-5 margin.

Lasell will head to St. Joseph's of Maine for a 1:00 p.m. match-up with the Monks on Saturday April 6th
