Lasell Closes Out Becker to Finish 9-0 in GNAC Play

Newton, Mass. – The Lasell College men's lacrosse team defeated Becker College 12-7 in their regular season finale. The Lasers improved to 11-4 on the year, and finished a perfect 9-0 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. Becker College dropped to 4-11 on the year and 4-5 in the GNAC.

Pat Bresnahan (Manchester, N.H.) and Jake LaMorte (Walpole, Mass.) each scored three goals while Billy Wood (Brewster, N.Y.) and Dylan Gray (Bayport, N.Y.)  added a pair of scores for Lasell. LaMorte, Gray and Adam Foss (Billerica, Mass.) finished with two assists each. Foss helped the Lasers control the ball, winning 16-21 face-offs and picking up 17 groundballs.

Shane Balestacci (Pawcatuck, Conn.) and Stephen Elliott (Windsor, Conn.) each scored a pair of goals for Becker, who also got a good performance from goalkeeper Michael Munoz (Avon, Conn.) who stopped 16 shots on the afternoon.

Lasell opened the game with a pair of early goals by Dan Clark (Scarborough, Me.) and Bresnahan to take a 2-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game. Becker answered with three consecutive to pull ahead 3-2 at the end of the first quarter.

Lasell scored three straight in the second quarter, using a pair of Dylan Gray goals and a score by Robbie Palazzo (Redding, Conn.) to retake the lead at 5-3 with 2:18 remaining in the half. Becker got a goal from Elliott followed by a Michael Whalen (Warwick, R.I) goal with a tenth of a second left to tie the game up at the half.

Lasell emerged from the halftime break more focused and scored five unanswered goals to take a 10-5 lead with 15 minutes to play. Bresnahan and LaMorte each scored twice during the run, with Billy Wood also finding space to beat the goalie. Becker got a goal back to open the fourth quarter cutting the Lasell lead to 10-6 with 10:26 to play. The hosts then put the game away pushing their lead to 12-6 with 2:46 remaining with goals by LaMorte and Wood.

Don Berube (Tewksbury, Mass.) earned the win in goal for Lasell, stopping five shots on the afternoon.

Lasell will return to action on Wednesday April 25th when they will host a GNAC quarterfinal contest at 3pm.
