Lasers Outlast Mustangs 7-6 in Men’s Lacrosse Action

Newton, Mass. – The Lasell College men's lacrosse team defeated the Mustangs of Mount Ida College, 7-6, Saturday afternoon.  The win improves the Lasers' record to 7-4 overall and 5-0 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, putting them in first place in the conference, while the Mustangs drop to 7-4 on the year and 4-1 in GNAC play, suffering their first conference loss of the season. Patrick Bresnahan (Manchester, NH) led the Lasers with three goals inlcuding, scoring the game winning goal for Lasell with 5:25 remaining in the 4th period. 

Lasell's Adam Foss (Billerica, MA) started the scoring off in the first quarter with an assist by Dylan Gray (Bayport, NY).  Mount Ida quickly answered back with a man-up goal by Nick Yacuzzi (Worcester, MA) bringing the score to a 1-1 tie.  Bresnahan scored his first goal of the game with 2:01 remaining in the first period giving Lasell the lead, 2-1.  The Mustangs were unable to score during the second quarter giving the Lasers the opportunity to increase their lead to 5-1 with goals by Jake LaMorte (Walpole, MA), Bresnahan, and Gray.
 
Mount Ida came back in the second half and scored three goals before Lasell could reconnect with the net.  Goals by Jake Davis (Chester, NH), Gilson Fernandes (Saugus, MA), and Michael Trocchi (Danvers, MA) helped the Mustangs catch up to the Lasers bringing the score to 5-4, Lasell.  An extra man opportunity kept Lasell alive in the second quarter with a goal by LaMorte, giving the Lasers a two goal lead.  Fernandes closed in on the Lasers' lead by scoring the first goal of the fourth quarter, bringing it back to a one goal game.  Bresnahan scored shortly after though, giving Lasell their final goal of the game.  Mount Ida quickly answered with another goal seconds later by Fernandes putting the final score at 7-6, Lasell.
First year goalie Don Berube (Tewksbury, MA) had 15 saves in the win for the Lasers and Jimmy McAllister had 10 saves in goal for the visiting Mustangs.
 

Mount Ida will host Emerson in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play on Wednesday, April 11th at 4:00pm.  Lasell will travel to Daniel Webster College for another conference matchup on Wednesday at 4:00pm.
