Men's Lacrosse Knocks Off Norwich in GNAC Opener

Newton, MA – The Lasell College men's lacrosse team picked up a hard fought GNAC victory versus visiting Norwich University. The Lasers used a pair of four goal runs to hold off the Cadets, getting four goals and one assist from senior midfielder Adam Foss (Billerica, MA) to pull out an 8-5 victory.

Lasell improved to 3-4 on the season and 1-0 in GNAC play, while Norwich fell to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in GNAC action on the year. Lasers goalkeeper Don Berube (Tewksbury, MA) limited Norwich to five goals to pick up the win, while Mark Paradiso (Westfors, MA) saved 11 shots, but took the loss for the Cadets. Patrick Tommins (Fairfield, CT) scored twice to lead Norwich, who also got a goal and assist from Patrick Sikora (Montpelier, VT). Dylan Gray (Bayport, NY) scored a goal and finished with three assists, while Jake LaMorte (Walpole, MA) tallied a goal and two assists in the victory for Lasell.

Norwich opened the scoring when Patrick Sikora found the back of the net with 9:31 left in the opening quarter to put Norwich on top 1-0. Lasell closed the period scoring three times, tallying a man-up goal by Billy Wood (Brewster, NY), followed by Foss going in off the face-off for an unassisted goal and Dylan Gray finishing a Jake LaMorte pass to give the hosts a 3-1 lead.

Lasell opened the second quarter building a 4-1 lead when LaMorte drilled a shot home off a Foss pass, but Norwich would answer. The Cadets cut the Lasers lead to 4-2 getting a goal from Patrick Tommins with 9 minutes remaining in the second quarter. The defenses stiffened following the Tommins goal, and neither side scored for the remainder of the half.

Norwich scored twice in the first four minutes of the third quarter, tying the score at 4-4 on goals from Marco Wiederanders (Denver, CO) and Patrick Tommins. Foss and Dylan Gray hooked up twice in the middle of the third period, with Foss finishing off Gray passes to restore the hosts' two goal edge. Ladson Shaello-Johnson (Binghamton, NY) then tallied on a pass from LaMorte to put Lasell in front 7-4 at the end of the third period.

The two sides opened the fourth with solid defensive performances, and 11 minutes elapsed before Foss scored his fourth goal of the afternoon to give Lasell an 8-4 lead with 3:53 left in the game. Josh Menge (Hagaman, NY) scored a man-down goal at the 3:30 mark for Norwich to cut the deficit to three, but they were unable to find the net again falling 8-5.
