The game between two schools which had never met before in the sport of men's lacrosse was proclaimed the Patti Mishaw Memorial Lacrosse Game and it was designed to celebrate the life of a player on each team's late mother. All proceeds from the contest will benefit the Patti Mishaw Foundation, which offers scholarship opportunities to students who wish to pursue careers in education.
Patti Mishaw died in March 2011 after battling cancer.
Connor Mishaw (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) started in goal for Goucher and made five saves while playing well into the fourth quarter. The only goal he allowed was assisted by his brother Austin Mishaw, a senior midfielder who serves as one of Lasell's 2012 captains.
The Gophers defeated the Lasers, 15-1.
Boncaro picked up assists on two goals by Rory Averett (Ivyland, Pa./Council Rock North) in the first quarter, during which the Gophers (6-1) outshot the Lasers, 21-1. Pierce Ingram (Austin, Texas/Westwood) also tallied two goals in the opening period and Zachary Fratella (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) added one as Goucher enjoyed a 5-0 lead after 15 minutes.
With those two assists, Boncaro moved into a tie with Dan Flamholz (2004-07) for the lead in most assists in a career at Goucher, but when the senior attackman set up Averett's third goal of the contest with just seven seconds remaining in the first half, he claimed the all-time record with his 104th career assist.
Goucher led 9-0 at halftime and tacked on three more goals in the third quarter before Jake LaMorte got the Lasers (1-2) on the scoreboard with an even-strength goal.
Pat Peddicord (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) and John Curry (Yarmouth, Maine/Yarmouth) both tallied unassisted goals for the Gophers in the fourth period.
Goucher unleashed at least 14 shots in all four quarters and finished with a total of 65, while Lasell got off more than three shots only in the third period and managed only 12 during the entire contest. The Gophers also decisively won the battle for ground balls, 52-19.
Don Berube played all 60 minutes in goal for Lasell and was credited with 25 saves.
