Lasell Welcomes Three New Men’s Lacrosse Assistants

NEWTON, MA (Feb. 25) - Lasell College Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Timothy Dunton announced the appointment of three new assistants to his staff this spring.

In addition to welcoming new coaches, Coach Dunton is extremely pleased to have Ryan Walsh, defensive coordinator, back on the sidelines with him this spring.  Coach Walsh served our country overseas last year.  He was a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Army, stationed in Baghdad, Iraq.  As the defensive coordinator in 2008, Coach Walsh was responsible for a defense that finished the season ranked #6 in the country in goals allowed per game.  That performance helped lead the Lasers to the ECAC Championship game.

Coach Dunton would like to welcome to the staff this year, Matt Shinney, Lou Lucchetti and Mike Maggio.  These three newcomers will join Dunton, Walsh and Josh Maciorowski, who has been with the team since 2007.

Matt Shinney comes to Lasell from Endicott College, where he helped lead the Gulls to an ECAC Championship and a final national ranking of #18.  Prior to Endicott, Shinney was an assistant coach at Division 1 Rutgers University.  He also has stints as an assistant coach at Catawba College and Fairleigh Dickinson University.  Coach Shinney played his HS lacrosse under legendary coach Tony Manzelli.  While with Lasell this season, Coach Shinney will assume the role of Associate Head Coach and also be the team's offensive coordinator.

Lou Lucchetti is no stranger to the Lasell College Men's Lacrosse program.  Lucchetti is the most decorated player in Lasell history.  He is the all-time leader in total points and assists in a career.  Holds records for assists in a season and game.  He was voted the Pilgrim League Rookie of the Year in 2002, Player of the Year in 2003 and was named to the First Team All-Conference all four years of his career.  Upon graduation, he participated in the NEILA East-West All Star game, was named to the NEILA All-New England Team and the ECAC All-Region Team.  Coach Lucchetti will be responsible for helping the Lasers with individual player development on the offensive end.

Mike Maggio finished his playing career at Lasell in 2009.  He joins the sidelines this season, after a very successful career as a player.  He was a three-time All-Conference midfielder, named to the NEILA East-West All Star Game and was named an ECAC All-Region player.  Mike finished his career with 95 goals and 40 assists, which ranks him 7th in Lasell history.  Mike will be responsible for running the substitution area this season.
