Lyons Come Out on Top in Pilgrim League Contest with Lasers

Newton, Mass.- The Lasers started out with a 5-1 advantage which the Lyons of Wheaton College slowly chipped away at to earn the conference victory over Lasell 13-10 on Saturday afternoon at Grellier Field.  The Lasers are now an even 1-1 in the Pilgrim League, and 3-6 overall.

The Lyons opened play with an unassisted goal by Ben Cederberg (Duxbury, Mass.) at 12:18 in the first.  Lasell then answered with the next five tallies while Laser goalie Mike Kelliher (Weymouth, Mass.) held the Lyons scoreless until 12:02 in the second period.

Brandon Keith (Marston Mills, Mass.) threw in two more goals, broken up by a second Buhloes mark, giving Lasell a 5-1 edge at the 12 minute mark.

The Lyons began crawling back in at 12:02 when Duncan Smith (Centerport, NY) stopped the Lasers attack notching his first score.  Koerner answered a minute later, but that was the last Laser goal for the remainder of the period, while the Lyons went on a four goal run to even the score to six-all at the break.

Upon return to the field, Brian Yepez (Hillsborough, NJ) put Lasell back on top firing in a shot at 9:06 in the third.   Wheaton tied the contest four more times before taking their first lead since the opening shot with nine minutes remaining in the game as Billy McNamara (Mansfield, Mass.) scored the game winner on a man-up opportunity for the Lyons. Wheaton padded their lead with two more goals to close the contest 13-10.

Keith led in points for the Lasers with four total, adding four ground balls.  Adam Foss (Billerica, Mass.) controlled 12 faceoffs, picking up an additional 7 ground balls for the lasers and Both Koerner and Maggio had three points apiece.
