Buzzard Bay, MA- Mass Maritime ran away with a 17-10 Pilgrim League victory over the Lasers on Saturday afternoon, giving the Buccaneers their first conference win.
The home team took a 4-0 lead in the first, with Connor Burke scoring first for the Bucs off a Brian Burke assist. Brian Burke then put in the second goal of the day and Connor Burke tallied his second personal mark to follow. Kevin Schultz put in Maritime's fourth uninterrupted score to end the frame.
Lasell got going with a Brandon Keith (Marston Mills, MA) solo goal winning a 1 v. 1 situation with the Buccaneers keeper. Chris Bulkley (Groton, Conn.) put in another just two minutes later to keep it close with Maritime.
The Bucs, however, continued scoring, four goals in three minutes, as they pulled out of reach of Lasell. Mike Maggio (Winchester, Mass.) broke up the streak with two goals and an assist on a score by Brian Yepez (Hillsborough, NJ). Jake Bickley gave Maritime a four goal lead going into the half with just 26 seconds on the clock.
Maggio picked up more points in the third. He started Lasell off with his 20th goal of the season 32 seconds, but the Buccaneers answered each Laser goal with one of their own. Ryan Koerner (Floral Park, NY) took a pass from Adam Foss (Billerica, Mass.) to score, and Maggio ended the third with two more goals.
In the final quarter, the Buccaneers pulled further away with a 4-1 bonus in the stanza. Dave Buhloes (Billerica, Mass.) tallied the only Laser goal.
Maggio ended with a team best seven points. Foss won possession off the faceoff 12 of 20 times for the Lasers.
Lasell plays at Babson on April 22nd at 7:00 p.m. and closes out Pilgrim League play on Sunday, April 26th at home against Clark at 1:00 p.m.
