Men’s Lax Defeated by Camels

NEW LONDON, Conn.- Lasell College faced a difficult matchup with the Connecticut College Camels who overwhelmed the Lasers men's lacrosse team 16-4.  Ryan Hayes (Darien, Conn.) exploded to seven goals and one assist, leading the Camels to their third straight victory. 

Connecticut took off from the opening faceoff on a 7-0 run and never let the Lasers get closer than within a four goal deficit. 

Lasell's Mike Maggio (Winchester, Mass.) was the first and last Laser to score opening the third quarter with Lasell's first tally.  Ryan Koerner (Floral Parks, NY) created Maggio's opportunity to get Lasell in the game with a pass during a man-up prospect, then less than a minute later, Lasell's second goal came from Maggio to Adam Foss (Billerica, Mass.) who sent one past the Camel's keeper Mark Moran.

With 9:20 remaining in the third, Anthony Erz (Hampton, NJ) won the ensuing faceoff and fired the ball downfield to Brandon Keith (Marston Mills, Mass.) to notch Lasell's third consecutive tally.

Hayes broke up the Lasers run with three uninterrupted goals of his own as the Camels continued to pull away with nine additional goals.  Maggio netted an unassisted score at 8:30 in the fourth was Lasell's last scoring occasion.

Mike Kelliher (Weymouth, Mass.) made 20 saves on the day for Lasell, facing 36 shots on goal.  Connecticut totaled 68 shots over the sixty minute game. 

Erz won 9-15 face-offs and picked up four ground balls.  Matt Stambler (Bay Shore, NY) had a team best seven groundballs .

Lasell is off until Saturday, April 18th when they travel to Mass. Maritime Academy for a Pilgrim League contest at 1:00 p.m.
