MBB: Day Named Finalist For Prestigious Jostens Trophy Award

Salem, VA - This week EJ Day was named a finalist for the prestigious award that is the Jostens Trophy. He is the third Laser to be named a finalist for the award, floowing Jose Guitian (2009) and Armin Omanovic (2017). Lasers Head Coach Aaron Galletta was also a finalist for the award in 2002 during his playing days at Union College.

This is just another deserved accolade for Day, as he continues to collect post-season awards for his 2022-2023 season. He led the country with 25.8 points per game, and led the Lasers with 6.1 assist per game, and 2.6 steals per game. In addition to being named a finalist for the Jostens Trophy, Day has been named the GNAC Player of the Year and an NABC All-Star. He has been named to the GNAC First Team, NABC Third Team All-American, NABC First Team All-Region 1, and D3hoops.com First Team All-District 1.

The Jostens Trophy honors - one for men's basketball and one for women's basketball - are national awards created by the Rotary Club of Salem and sponsored by Jostens, Inc., to recognize the most outstanding men's and women's Division III basketball players of the year. The awards focus on three major criteria: basketball ability, academic prowess, and service to one's surrounding communities. The Jostens Trophy models the Rotary International motto of "Service Above Self" by recognizing those who truly fit the ideal of a well-rounded Division III student-athlete. The 2023 season marks the 25th time the Jostens Trophy honors will be awarded.

The finalists will now be reviewed by the Jostens Trophy National Selection Committee. The committee is composed of men and women from across the country. The committee features current and former athletic administrators and head coaches, past Jostens Trophy recipients, and select members of the Division III media. The committee will spend the next two weeks reviewing the nominees with the aim of announcing the two winners on Thursday, March 23.
