MBB: Day's Historic Career Comes to Close as Lasers' Season Ends at Albertus Magnus

New Haven, CT - The Lasell Lasers' season came to a close with an 89-84 loss to Albertus Magnus on Saturday. The loss ends the season at 12-13 overall, and 9-9 in conference play. The Falcons improve to 16-9 and 14-4.

The Lasers got out to the early 8-2 lead, and slowly built on it over the eight minutes, extending it to nine points at 17-8 on an EJ Day three pointer. The Falcons then went on a 10-0 run to grab the lead. After a Lasers basket to retake the lead, the Falcons went on another 10-0 run to grab a 28-19 lead with seven minutes remaining in the first half. A 6-0 Lasell run closed the gap, but the Lasers would trail 47-41 at the break.

With the Lasers trailing 51-42 just two minutes into the second half, Lasell went on a 13-0 run to grab a 55-51 lead with 12 minutes. But the Falcons quickly turned the momentum around, going on a 17-0 run over the next three minutes to grab a commanding 68-55 lead with nine minutes left. But a 7-0 run by the Lasers behind five points from Conan McCusker got the Laser back into it, making it 68-62 with seven minutes left. The Falcons would then go back up by 10 with just over two minutes remaining. But as has been the case all season, the Laser fought back. Three pointers from Marcus Lewis and EJ Day quickly made it 83-79. After a pair of Albertus Magnus free throws, Lewis would hit another three to make it 85-82 with 56 second remaining. Day would then make two free throws of his own to make it 85-84 with 28 seconds remaining. After the Falcons responded with a pair of their own free throws to go back up three, the Lasers would have one final chance to tie things up. But it was not meant to be, as the Lasers would turn the ball over.

The Lasers were led by EJ Day's 38 points and eight assists. During the game he passed both Demetrius DeJesus (1,574) and Jaime Crawford (1,586), finishing his career with the third most points in school history with 1,610 points. He did this despite playing just 68 games, while both men above him played in over 100 games. The 38 points are tied for 11th most in a game in program history, with Day holding seven of the top 13 games. He finished the season averaging 25.8 PPG, leading the nation.

Joining Day in double figures was Conan McCusker with 17 points off the bench. Quinton Partee Jr. led the team with seven rebounds to go with his nine points.
