MBB: Day Plays Hero as Lasers Defeat Cadets

Newton, MA - The Lasell Lasers defeated the Norwich Cadets by a final score of 66-63 on Saturday, as they moved to 11-12 on the season and 8-8 in conference play. The Cadets are also now11-12, but 5-10 in GNAC play.

The Lasers were slow out of the gate, as they trailed 15-1 seven and a half minutes into the game, not recording a made field goal until an EJ Day layup that made it 15-3. A key shot in the first half was a Quinton Partee jr. three pointer that made it 21-13, as that got the Lasers within single digits. Lasell would slowly continue to close the gap, and found themselves down just 31-25 at the break after Andrew Cabral hit a three-pointer with just over a minute left in the half.

A 6-1 run to open the second half brought the Lasers within one early in the half. After the Cadets extended their lead back out to seven, Cabral hit another key three, as the Lasers went on a 7-0 run to tie things up at 42. The Lasers would later grab their first lead of the game on an EJ Day and-one that gave the Lasers a 49-48 lead with nine minutes remaining. Neither team would hold a lead larger than four points the rest of the way. With just over two minutes remaining in the game, the Cadets held a 63-59 lead. This is when EJ Day took over. He hit a three pointer with two minutes left to get the Lasers within one, and then after a missed Norwich layup, Day made a jump shot to give the Lasers a 64-63 lead with just over one minute in the game. After another Lasers defensive stop, Day hit another jumper with 20 second left to put the Lasers up 66-63. A last second three-pointer by the Cadets was no good.

The Lasers were led by their star player Day with 27 points, 18 of which came in the second half. He also picked up two steals and dished out five assists. Quinton Partee Jr. recorded his second straight double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
