MBB: Lasers Pull Out Thrilling Win in Overtime

New London, NH - The Lasell Lasers picked up a crucial GNAC win over the Colby-Sawyer Chargers on Saturday, winning by a score of 72-65 in overtime. The win improves the Lasers to 7-9 on the season, and 4-5 in conference play. The Chargers fall to 7-11 and 4-6.

This game was the definition of a back and forth game, as the two teams combine for 24 ties and 38 lead changes. The teams traded baskets in the first half, with the largest lead being when the Chargers went up 24-17, but the Lasers would score the next eight points to take a lead. The Chargers would take a 30-28 lead into halftime.

The second half was more of the same, as the Lasers held the largest lead in the half at 45-40 midway through the period. Things were tied at 53 with three and a half minutes left when EJ Day hit a three pointer to put the Lasers up late. The two teams would trade a pair of made jump shots before the Chargers hit a three of their own with one minute remaining to tie things up at 58. After a missed shot from Lasell, the Chargers took the lead on a jumper with 25 seconds left. The Lasers put the ball in EJ Day's hands, and he delivered, hitting a floater with 10 seconds left to tie things up, and send the game to overtime.

Neither team scored in the first 90 second of the extra period, with CSC hitting a pair of free throws to break the tie. The Lasers responded with a pair of their own, and followed that up with a layup from Demerrick Warren to take a 64-62 lead. Day then went on a 6-1 run by himself, giving control to Lasell. The Lasers would ultimately take the victory 72-65.

It was a two-headed attach for the Lasers, as EJ Day (27 points) and Quinton Partee Jr. (22 points) combined for 68% of the Lasers scoring. Day played 42 of a possible 45 minutes, and grabbed 10 rebounds to pair with four assists and four steals. Demerrick Warren led the team with 12 rebounds.
