MBB: Bench Leads Lasers to Victory

Bangor, ME - The Lasell Lasers defeated the Husson Eagles by a final score of 88-81. The win moves the Lasers to 3-2 on the season, while the Eagles are now 1-3.

Husson got out to an early 5-0 lead, but after a Lasell timeout, the Lasers started to turn it around. But the Eagles offense proved to be too much to handle, as they would take a 30-15 lead 10 minutes into the game. But the Lasers would not give up, as they ended the half on a 24-7 run, and took a 39-37 lead into the break. Conan McCusker was the key to the Lasers' first half, as he scored 17 points on 6-8 shooting, including 4-5 from three-point range.

The teams would trade baskets early in the second half, before the Lasers went on a 10-0 run to take a 13-point lead at 62-49. Twice, with under five minutes remaining in the game, the Eagles got the lead down to single digits, but both times McCusker would respond with an immediate three pointer to push the lead back up to double digits. With 43 seconds remaining the Lasers led 84-74, but the Eagles would manage a 7-0 run over the next 20 seconds to make it a three-point game. But McCusker would sink two free throws to ice the game.

Playing without their leading scorer EJ Day, the Lasers found their offense from the bench, as 57 of their 88 points came from the bench. That was highlighted by McCusker's 27, and Karim Belhouchet's 18. Two starters scored in double digits in Demerrick Warren and Quinton Partee Jr., each of whom scored 10.

Up Next - The Lasers will next play on Tuesday, November 29th at 7pm, as they will host Wheaton.
