Men's Basketball Tripped Up by Babson

Newton, MA - The Lasell University Lasers fell to the Babson Beavers on Wednesday night by a score of 76-65. It was each teams' first game of the season.

The Lasers got out to a hot start in front of a raucus home opening crowd. Midway through the half, the Lasers held a 17-15 lead. They would then use an 8-0 run over the next two minutes to extend their lead to 10. The two teams would trade baskets the rest of the half, and Lasell would hold a 37-32 lead at the break.

The second half was a different story, as the Beavers came out and took control early. Over the first two minutes of the half, they went on an 11-0 run to take a six point lead. the Lasers would fight back though, and used a 6-0 run of their own to tie things back up with 15 minutes to play. The two teams would go back and forth for the next four mintes, but the Beavers would start to pull away, and held a 63-50 lead with seven minutes remaining. But the Lasers did not give up, and went on a 13-4 run over the next four minutes, and had multiple opportunities to make it a one possesion game, but they were never able to capitalize. Down the stretch the Beavers would once again pull away, winning the game 76-65.

The Lasers were led by EJ Day, who scored 29 points on 7-23 shooting. He also went 12-13 from the free throw line. There were no other double digit scorers for Lasell, but Gabe Qua scored nine, and Marcus Lewis added eight. Qua also grabbed 10 rebounds, pacing the Lasers.

The difference in the game proved to be turnovers, as Lasell turned the ball over 26 times, compared to just 13 for the Beavers. That combined with 16 offensive rebounds, allowed the Beavers to take 79 shots, 29 more than Lasell.
