MBK: Masciarelli named to All-GNAC First Team

NEWTON, Mass. – The leading scorer on the Lasell College men's basketball team received a post-season honor Monday from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) for his top-notch performance during the 2018-19 season.

Junior Stefan Masciarelli (Northbridge, Mass./St. John's) was named to the All-GNAC First Team in a vote by the league's head coaches. Masciarelli earns his second All-Conference selection after receiving First Team honors a year ago.

A 6-1 guard, Masciarelli leads the GNAC in scoring with 24.6 points per game and a 92.6 free throw percentage, which also ranks third nationally in NCAA Division III in free throw percentage and 11th in scoring. He is tied for second in the conference with 4.3 assists per game, tied for seventh with 69 three-point baskets made and ranks eighth in free throws made. Masciarelli also ranks in the top 10 nationally in field goals made (8th) and attempted (2nd), and in the top 15 in total points (11th) and minutes played (14th).

Masciarelli led the Lasers in scoring in 20 of the team's 26 games, notching at least 20 points 19 times, at least 30 points seven times, and poured in a career-high 45 points in a conference game against Colby-Sawyer College in January. Masciarelli went over the 1,000 career points mark earlier this month in a loss to Tufts University, the 15th player in program history to reach the milestone.

Additionally, senior Joe O'Brien (Saugus, Mass./Malden Catholic) was Lasell's representative on the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team. O'Brien started all 26 games at guard this season for Lasell, averaging 4.3 points and 2.2 assists per game and making 33 shots from three-point range.

The Lasers finished the season with a 7-19 overall record under 13th-year head coach Aaron Galletta, finishing in a tie for seventh place in the GNAC regular season standings with a 5-6 mark. Lasell was knocked out of the GNAC Tournament in the quarterfinals by top-seeded and eventual champion Albertus Magnus College.
