#19 Amherst downs Lasell Men’s Basketball

AMHERST, Mass. – After fighting to get back in front just before halftime on Saturday afternoon, the Amherst College men's basketball team exploded for 53 points in the second half to defeat Lasell College 91-64 in non-conference action at LeFrak Gymnasium.

The Mammoths (6-1), ranked #19 in this week's d3hoops.com national poll, had four players in double-figures and scored 90+ points for the fifth game after being held to just 55 points by Babson last time out.

Junior Stefan Masciarelli (Northbridge, Mass.) had 18 of his game-high 21 points in the first half for Lasell (2-9). Sophomore Vic Collazo (Clearwater, Fla.) added 14 points, nine of them at the free-throw line, while sophomore Adrian Nova (Hialeah, Fla.) scored nine points on 3-5 shooting in just seven minutes off the Lasers bench.

Junior Eric Sellew scored 15 points while grabbing seven rebounds for Amherst. Senior Joe Schneider added 10 points, including several thunderous dunks, one of which gave Amherst a three-point halftime lead after the visitors had led most of the first half.

Sophomore Grant Robinson had 12 points and four of Amherst's 19 assists. His three-pointer to start the second half got Amherst on their way to a 7-14 shooting clip from long range after the break.

Back to back dunks by Schneider helped a 7-1 run to extend the Amherst lead to double-digits with three minutes gone in the second half.

Later in the half, Sellew grabbed defensive rebounds and fed sophomore Fru Che with full-court passes to lead to fast break layups on two successive plays.

Senior Dylan Groff scored 13 points off the Amherst bench, who outscored the Lasers' reserves 43-18.

A big part of the second half barrage was the shooting of Tommy Mobley, who hit three triples in the second half for all nine of his points in the win. Devonn Allen hit a pair of threes as well to end the night with six points.
