#11 MIT too strong for Lasell Men’s Basketball

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lasell College men's basketball team was upended by #11 Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Saturday afternoon, 96-64, in a non-conference contest at Rockwell Cage.

Senior AJ Jurko (Weston, Fla.) had a team-high 16 points and 16 assists as all five MIT starters scored in double figures in the victory. Four Engineers recorded at least 15 points as Jurko and Tim Roberts (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) each tossed in 16 points and senior Cameron Korb (Los Gatos, Calif.) and sophomore Ian Hinkley (Raleigh, N.C.) added 15 apiece.

Junior Stefan Masciarelli (Northbridge, Mass.) scored a team-high 19 points to lead Lasell, including 12 in the first half. Sophomore Vic Collazo (Clearwater, Fla.) added 10 points and a team-high six rebounds.

Lasell (1-7) was unsuccessful in its attempt to gain a lead versus the Engineers, falling behind 20-6 just 5:37 into the contest. MIT took a 54-31 lead into the break after a last second three-pointer by Hinkley.

MIT (5-1) gathered its largest lead of the afternoon when they took a 88-51 off a Giannis Chatziveroglou (Athens, Greece) lay-up with 6:19 remaining in the second half.

Lasell returns to action Tuesday, December 4, at 7:00 p.m. as the Lasers host Suffolk University in a non-league matchup. MIT travels Tuesday to face UMass Dartmouth at 7:00 p.m.
