NEWTON, Mass. – The Lasell College men's basketball team will compete in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament this week for the ninth time since 2008, beginning Tuesday, February 20, with a home game against nearby Regis College at 7:00 p.m. at the Athletic Center.
The fourth-seeded Lasers will host the fifth-seeded Pride in a quarterfinal match-up. Both teams finished with a 12-13 overall record, and Lasell earned the higher seed with a 10-6 mark in conference play while Regis was 9-7. The game is a rematch of the February 1 match-up at the Lasell Athletic Center, when the Lasers pulled out a 69-67 victory.
Lasell advanced to the GNAC championship game a year ago with a quarterfinal win over Emmanuel and a semifinal upset victory at Johnson & Wales before falling at Albertus Magnus in the final.
The Lasers are 10-7 all-time in GNAC Tournament play and is seeking its first championship since 2008, its first year in the conference. Regis is making its first GNAC Tournament appearance having just joined the league this year.d
Top-seeded Albertus Magnus College will host eighth-seeded Anna Maria College in one of the other quarterfinals, while second-seeded Johnson & Wales University entertains seventh-seeded Norwich University in another game and third-seeded Saint Joseph's College (Maine) hosts sixth-seeded Suffolk University in the other.
The semifinal games are Thursday, February 22, at the higher remaining seeds, and the championship game is Saturday, February 24, at the highest remaining seed. The tournament champion receives the GNAC's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
