Lasell Uses 2nd Half Run to Top Norwich in Men's Hoops

Northfield, VT - The Lasell College men's basketball team traveled to Norwich University needing a win to guarantee a home playoff game in Tuesday's GNAC quarterfinals, and picked up an 88-64 victory. Junior guard Arthur Alexander(Port St. Lucie, FL) went 7-10 from three point range and scored a career high 27 points to go with five assists, Javon Williams(Mattapan, MA) posted his fourth double-double of the season with 20 points and 11 rebounds and Sean Bertanza(Seymour, CT) added 19 points in the win. Senior Antonio Davis(Albany, NY) led Norwich with 19 points and sophomore guard Nikolai Havoutis(Coral Springs, FL) tallied 13 points in the loss. 

The Lasers improved to 12-13 overall and 11-7 in the GNAC, and finished tied for third place in the conference standings with the win. They will host Emmanuel College on Tuesday February 21st in the GNAC quarterfinals at 7pm. Norwich fell to 5-19 on the year and 4-14 in GNAC play.

Lasell used a 15-0 run in the second half to turn a 51-50 deficit into a 64-51 lead with 9:40 to play. Javon Williams put Lasell up 52-51 with a transition lay-up, and then the Lasers connected from downtown three times, two by Alexander and one by senior Nate DiSessa(Westfield, MA). Williams then buried a baseline jumper and hit two free throws to cap the 15-0 run.

The Lasers continued to pour it on, connecting on 10 of 16 from three point territory in the second half to outscore the hosts 54-27 over the final twenty minutes of the game.

The Cadets built an early 20-10 lead seven and a half minutes into the game, only to see Lasell answer with a 10-0 run over the next 2:20 to even the score at 20-20 with ten minutes left in the opening half. The teams traded the lead over the next ten minutes, with Norwich taking a 37-34 advantage into the half.

Lasell shot 48.3% from the field and 43.3% from three while holding Norwich to 36.1% shooting and 33.3% from deep in the contest.

Game Notes: Junior guard Sean Bertanza scored his 1,000th career point when hit hit a transition three pointer with 18:55 to play in the second half.
