FH: Playle Named Player of the Year, Six Other Lasers Honored by GNAC

Newton, MA - The GNAC announced their end of the year awards for field hockey on Wednesday, and seven lasers were recognized, including Abbey Playle as the Offensive Player of the Year.

Playle was one of the top scorers in all of Division III this year, ranking in the top-10 nationally in goals per game and points per game. She scored 18 goals during the regular season and collected 13 assists giving her 49 points on the season. A lot of her damage was done in conference play as she ranked third in the GNAC with 14 goals and first in assists with 13. She recorded six multi-goal games including three hat tricks and had six instances in which she registered five or more points in a single game. Four of her tallies also accounted for game-winners. Playle was one of three Lasers named to the conference's first team.

Joining her on the first team was Sheridan Blaha and Isabella O'Reilly. Blaha, a senior, finished the season with a school record 24 goals. Her 55 points on the season also led the team, and broke Lily Stark's record of 54 from last year for points in a single season in school history. She finishes her career at Lasell with 53 goals in 54 games, and 122 points. She ranks third all-time in goals and points, while her 16 career assists rank sixth. This marked the fourth time Blaha had been named to an all GNAC team, but the first time she was named to the first team. O'Reilly, one of only two freshman to be named to the conference's first team, was a pillar of the Laser defense. She had two defensive saves on the season

Lily Stark and Courtney Tello were each named to the conference's second team. Stark, a senior, finished the season 19 goals and nine assists, both second on the team. She finishes her career with 49 goals and 20 assists in 53 games for 118 points. She ranks fourth all-time in school history in goals, points, and assists. Tello, a junior, finished first in the conference in save percentage, with .900, good for the third best in the country. Her goals against average of .603 was good for second in the conference, and eigth in the country. She currently has 32 career wins, just nine away from tying the school record.

Jacquelyn Scopa was named to the all-rookie team. She was fourth on the team in both goals (9) and points (20). The finals Laser honored was senior Kait Bedell, as she was named to the all-sportsmanship team. She finished the season with two goals and three assists.
