FH: Lasers defeat Monks; end regular season at 10-7

The Lasell University field hockey team defeated the Monks of St. Joseph 2-1 in overtime Wednesday afternoon on Grellier Field. The win moves the Lasers to 10-7 on the season and 7-4 in conference play. The loss moves the monks to 11-8 on the year.

The Lasers got on the board in the 44th minute when Lily Stark (Saco, ME) shot the ball at the Monks goalie. Madison Raymond (Concord, NH) collected the rebound and then shot it into the net to give the Lasers the lead.

10 minutes later the monks leveled the game at one when Aimee Adams (Gardiner, ME) passed the ball inside the circle toward a dashing Maya Waryas (Bellows Falls, VT). Waryas was then able to then shoot the ball into the net for the score.

The rest of the game would remain scoreless and would go to overtime with the score 1-1.

Two minutes into overtime Lily Stark ran down the left flank and worked her way inside the circle. Stark then passed the ball to Sheridan Blaha (Waltham, MA) who was perched in front of the net. Blaha collected the ball and shot it into the net for the game-winning goal.

With that assist, Lily Stark now holds the Lasell single-season record for points with 52.

Lasell goalie Courtney Tello (Nashua, NH) finished the game with four saves.

Both teams will face each other again this Saturday in Standish, ME in a GNAC Quarterfinals matchup at 11 a.m.
