GNAC Weekly Honors continue for Lasell field hockey star

NEWTON, Mass. – One of the leading scorers on the Lasell College field hockey team continued to make headlines in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Monday with more weekly honors from the conference office.

Junior Sam Taylor (Hanover, Mass.) was named GNAC Field Hockey Player of the Week. It's the fourth time this season that Taylor has received the conference's top weekly field hockey honor.

A junior forward, Taylor totaled four goals in a 2-0 week for the Lasers with a pair of two-goal games, including both game-winners. She scored Lasell's first and third goals in the first 17 minutes Wednesday in a 6-0 non-conference victory over Framingham State, and she tallied Lasell's second and fourth goals, both in the first half, in a 6-1 GNAC triumph Saturday at Regis College.

Taylor leads the GNAC with 15 assists this season and ranks seventh nationally with 0.83 assists per game. She is also second on the team and the conference with 16 goals and 47 points, trailing only senior teammate Cailin Flannery (Medford, N.J.), who has 20 goals, eight assists and 48 points.

Taylor has also established a new school record for assists in a season (15), while Flannery has matched the program record for goals in a season (20). Both Flannery (48) and Taylor (47) have eclipsed the standard of 45 points in a season, previously accomplished by Flannery in 2015 and Taylor in 2017.

Lasell, 13-5 overall and 6-0 in the conference, plays its final regular season game of the season Wednesday at Saint Joseph's College (Maine) at 7:00 p.m. The Lasers and Monks (16-1, 6-0) are tied for first place in the GNAC, and the winner will be crowned regular season champions and earn the top seed in the upcoming GNAC Tournament.
