Lasell Field Hockey rolls past Framingham State

NEWTON, Mass. – Junior Sam Taylor (Hanover, Mass.) and sophomore Rebecca Duke (Ijamsville, Md.) scored two goals apiece, securing Lasell College's 6-0 victory against the Framingham State Rams Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Grellier Field.

Lasell wore pink jerseys in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the team has donated funds to Dana-Farber and Brigham and Women's Cancer Center.

The Lasers improve their record to 12-5 for the season, while the Rams' record drops 2-11 overall.

Lasell capitalized in the first half, taking a 5-0 lead by halftime. Seven minutes into the game, Taylor got her first goal off a rebound shot from senior Cailin Flannery (Medford, N.J.) Shortly after, Duke forced the ball in past Rams goalkeeper Haley Duggan (Framingham, Mass.), putting Lasell in the lead 2-0.

At 16:43 Flannery gave Taylor a cross pass in front of the cage who pushed the ball in from the left post. Duke got the assist for sophomore Megan Horrigan (Wakefield, Mass.) and tipped the ball into the goal off the deflection.

Senior Julia Franzik (Wallingford, Conn.) assisted Flannery during a fast break down the midfield when Flannery knocked the ball in goal for her 19th goal of the season.

In the second half, Horrigan sent a hard drive into goal, getting the unassisted shot off a rebound from the goalie.

Freshman goalkeeper Makena Leazer (Nashua, N.H.) earned the win for Lasell, saving the one shot on goal she faced. Duggan held down the goal for Framingham for the first 35, making 15 saves. Freshman Grace Pushor (Old Town, Maine) came in for the second half, making two saves.

The Lasers lead 18-8 in penalty corners, while outshooting the Rams 30-1.

Flannery and Taylor have been making an assault on the Lasell single-season record book this year. Flannery bumped her totals to 19 goals and eight assists for a school-record 46 points, while Taylor has 14 goals and a school-standard 15 assists for 43 points. The dynamic duo shared the single-season record of 45 points, Flannery achieving the mark in 2015 and Taylor matching it last season.

Lasell is on the road for their next game against Great Northeast Athletic Conference opponent Regis College on Saturday, October 20 at 4 p.m. Framingham State will take on Salem State University on Saturday, October 20 at 12 p.m.
