More GNAC Weekly Honors for Lasell field hockey and volleyball stars

NEWTON, Mass. – Two Lasell College student-athletes continued to make headlines in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Monday with more weekly honors from the conference office.

Junior Sam Taylor (Hanover, Mass.) was named GNAC Field Hockey Player of the Week, and freshman Kiana Perez (Juncos, Puerto Rico) was selected GNAC Women's Volleyball Rookie on the Week. It's the third time this season that Taylor has received the conference's top weekly honor in field hockey, while Perez earned the top rookie honor in volleyball for the fourth time this fall.

A junior forward, Taylor tallied three goals and three assists in a 2-1 week for the Lasers. She collected three assists in Lasell's 7-4 win at Clark University on Tuesday, scored Lasell's only goal in Thursday's 3-1 loss to Smith College, and tallied two goals, including the overtime game-winner Saturday in Lasell's only GNAC game, a 5-4 win over Rivier.

Taylor leads the GNAC with 15 assists this season, ranks second in the conference with 39 points and tied for third with 12 goals. She also ranks third nationally in NCAA Division III with 0.94 assists per game, and 34th in with 2.44 points per game.

The Laser field hockey squad, 11-5 overall and 5-0 in the conference, plays their last home regular season Wednesday against Framingham State University.

A freshman outside hitter, Perez averaged 4.25 kills, 4.25 digs and a .069 attack percentage in a 2-0 week for the Lasers, both GNAC victories. She tallied 18 kills and 11 digs in a 3-1 victory at Norwich University, and added 16 kills and 23 digs in a 3-1 win over Emmanuel College. She also made one service ace and one block in each match.

Perez leads the GNAC in kills (270) and kills per set (3.51). She also tops the team with a .157 attack percentage and ranks second on the team with 35 service aces and third with 220 digs.

Lasell, 11-12 overall and 8-2 in the GNAC, hosts #3-ranked Johnson & Wales University Wednesday at the Athletic Center in a conference match-up at 7:00 p.m.
