Lasell Field Hockey players receive GNAC Weekly Honors

NEWTON, Mass. – Two Lasell College field hockey standouts have been recognized by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) for their performances in the Lasers 2-0 week.

Senior Cailin Flannery (Medford, N.J.)  and freshman Sofia Rodriguez (Peabody, Mass.) were named GNAC Player and Rookie of the Week respectively.

A senior forward, Flannery recorded a pair of two-goal games for four goals and eight points, including both game-winners, in a 2-0 week for Lasell. She scored twice in a 4-3 non-conference road win at Roger Williams on Thursday, including a second-half goal that tied the game at 2-2 and the overtime game-winner, and she scored the second and fourth goals in Saturday's 4-1 GNAC road victory at Anna Maria.

Lasell's career scoring leader with 60 goals, 40 assist and 160 points, Flannery sits high in NCAA Division III statistics categories this year. She is 22nd in the nation with 1.15 goals per game and is 27th with 2.62 points per game. Flannery has tallied a conference leading 34 points, including a GNAC-high 15 goals.

The Lasers' powerhouse offense has the team ranked 14th in Division III  at three categories. Lasell has averaged 3.92 goals per game, 9.92 points per game and outscored their opponents an average 3.84 goals per game. The latter is good for second in the GNAC, behind Saint Joseph's (ME) who sits at third in Division III.

Rodriguez earns her third straight GNAC honor, and her first Rookie of the Week award. The two-time Goalkeeper of the Week stopped her way to a 2-0 record a 1.95 goals against average and a .765 save percentage in a 2-0 week for Lasell. She made 12 saves on 15 shots in a 4-3 non-conference overtime road victory Thursday at Roger Williams, and she made one save on two shots in 57 minutes in Saturday's 4-1 GNAC road victory at Anna Maria.

The rookie netminder ranks third in the GNAC with five victories this season, fourth with a .757 save percentage, and sixth with a .2.69 goals against average.

Lasell hops out of GNAC action for two non-conference matchups this week, wrapping up a three-game road trip at Clark on Tuesday (4:00 p.m.) and returning home Thursday to host Smith College (3:30 p.m.) The Lasers return to Grellier Field on Saturday for Senior Day as they host GNAC foe Rivier at 12:00 p.m., as part of the Lasell College Family & Friends Weekend festivities.
