Lasell Field Hockey players repeat GNAC Weekly Honors

NEWTON, Mass. – Two standouts on the Lasell College field hockey team have been recognized for the second straight week with top honors by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) for their performances in Laser wins last week.

Junior Sam Taylor (Hanover, Mass./Hanover) and freshman Sofia Rodriguez (Peabody, Mass./Veterans Memorial) were named GNAC Field Hockey Player and Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively. Both Lasers were recipients of the same GNAC honor a week ago.

A junior forward, Taylor scored three goals and added one assist for seven points in a pair of non-conference wins for Lasell last week. She tallied two goals and one assist as the Lasers rallied from two goals down to defeat previously undefeated WPI in overtime on Tuesday, 4-3, and she scored the game-winning goal in the final minute Thursday in Lasell's 3-2 win over UMass Dartmouth.

Taylor, who has seven goals and six assists in her last five games, leads the GNAC with 11 assists while ranking second on the team and tied for fifth in the conference with eight goals, and tied for first on the team and second in the GNAC with 26 points.

A freshman keeper, Rodriguez recorded a 2-0 record with a 2.63 goals against average and a .765 save percentage with 13 saves in the two non-conference wins. She made nine saves on 12 shots as Lasell rallied to defeat previously undefeated WPI in overtime on Tuesday, 4-3, and she made four saves on five shots in the first half Thursday in the 3-2 win over UMass Dartmouth.

Rodriquez upped her season totals to a 3-1 record with a 3.04 goals against average and a .755 save percentage. She ranks fifth in the GNAC in save percentage.

The Lasers, 7-4 overall and one of only two undefeated GNAC teams (3-0), opens October with three straight road games, beginning Thursday at Roger Williams University (7:00 p.m.) and Saturday with a GNAC affair at Anna Maria College (11:00 a.m.)
