NEWTON, Mass. – Senior Bailey Tregoning (Frederick, Md.) and sophomore Amanda Garofalo (Fairfield, N.J.) tallied a goal and an assist each Thursday afternoon as the Engineers of Massachusetts Institute of Technology defeated Lasell College, 4-2, in non-conference field hockey action on Grellier Field.

The Lasers' record now stands 2-3 while MIT advances to a 5-1 overall record.

MIT led the first half, out-shooting the Lasers 13-3. Freshman Laura Chen (Califon, N.J.) blasted the ball into the arch toward Tregoning who scored off the deflection nine minutes into the contest. Sophomore Delia Stephens (Austin, Texas) received a pass across the circle from sophomore Amanda Garofalo (Fairfield, N.J.) and knocked it into the goal, putting the Engineers up 2-0 at 23:10.

The Lasers responded in the last two minutes when senior Nikki Pignone (Ipswich, Mass.) pushed the ball in off a rebound for her second of the second, cutting the deficit in half heading into the break.

With a goal on the board, the Lasers came out in the second half hungry for more. After the first five minutes, MIT freshman Mia Reilly (Los Angeles, Calif.) knocked the ball in off an assist from Tregoning boosting the Engineers' lead to 3-1. Garofalo drove in MIT's fourth goal of the game during a penalty corner, assisted by sophomore Jennah Haque (Bethesda, Md.)

Senior Julia Franzik found a fast break in the midfield for Lasell and sent the ball to senior Cailin Flannery (Medford, N.J.) who got the unassisted goal for the Lasers with nine minutes remaining.

Sophomore goalie Grace Moore (Boston, Mass.) collected four saves for MIT. Freshman goalie Sofia Rodriguez (Peabody, Mass.) made her collegiate debut and made nine saves in 52 minutes of action. Classmate goalkeeper Makena Leazer (Nashua, N.H.) came on in the second half and made two stops.
