NEWTON, Mass. — The Lasell College field hockey team hosted the Owls of Keene State College Wednesday afternoon in their home opener at Grellier Field, dropping a 2-1 result in overtime when senior Julia Badditt (Haddam, Conn.) finished a feed from sophomore Nina Bruno (Agawam, Mass.) to propel the visitors to victory. The Lasers fell to 1-2 with the loss while Keene State improved to 2-0 on the year. 

Badditt notched a pair of goals, both on feeds from Bruno for Keene State, who also saw sophomore Rachel Loseby (Hartford, Vt.) make a dozen saves to earn the victory in goal.

Junior Izzy Contois (Conway, Mass.) scored for the Lasers on an assist from senior Cailin Flannery (Medford, N.J.) and freshman Makena Leazer (Nashua, N.H.) made seven saves while taking the loss in goal for Lasell.

Keene State took a 1-0 lead at the 15:25 mark in the first half when Badditt put the visitors in front with her first goal of the contest. Lasell knotted the score at 1-1 early in the second half when Flannery set up Contois for her for her first goal of the season.

With just over 20 minutes remaining Keene State was awarded a penalty stroke which Leazer was able to save with a diving effort for Lasell, deflecting the well placed attempt from Ally McCall (Watertown, Mass.) wide to keep the score tied at 1-1.

After neither team was able to find a go-ahead goal in regulation, Keene State was able to claim the victory less than two minutes into overtime when Bruno and Baddiitt connected to produce the game-winner for Owls.  

Lasell held a 10-5 edge in penalty corners and narrowly outshot Keene State 15-13 for the contest. 

Up next, the Owls will move travel to Springfield College on Saturday September 8 while Lasell with open Great Northeast Athletic Conference action when they welcome the Chargers of Colby-Sawyer to Grellier Field at 12 p.m.
