Lasell Field Hockey freshman named GNAC Rookie of the Week

NEWTON, Mass. – A freshman goalkeeper on the Lasell College field hockey team has been recognized during the first round of weekly honors by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) for her performances on the opening week of the regular season.

Freshman keeper Makena Leazer (Nashua, N.H./Bishop Guertin) has been named GNAC Field Hockey Rookie of the Week, as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon. Leazer helped the Lasers post a 1-1 record in non-conference play, posting a 6-1 victory over Becker College Saturday afternoon after a 2-1 setback at Nichols College on Friday evening.

Leazer posted a 1.50 goals against average with 12 saves and an .800 save percentage in the two games. She make six saves in the Friday night loss at Nichols, and added six more stops in her first career victory Saturday over Becker. Through the first weekend of the season, Leazer shares the GNAC lead in saves, ranks second in save percentage and is tied for fourth in goals against average.

After two road games to start the season, Lasell (1-1) returns home for the home opener at Grellier Field Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. against non-conference foe Keene State College.
