Field Hockey Blanks New England College in Seventh Shutout

HENNIKER, N.H. (10/3/17) – The Lasell field hockey team posted their seventh clean sheet of the season, blanking the Pilgrims of New England College, 4-0, Tuesday evening in non-conference play. The Lasers improve to 10-1 with the win, while the Pilgrims fall to 4-7.

Cailin Flannery (Medford, N.J.) stepped between two defenders and fired a hard shot from about five yards out to put the visitors on the board 15 minutes in. A minute-and-28 seconds later, Claire Shepherd (Huntington Beach, Fla.) scored her sixth goal of the season to give Lasell a 2-0 bump.

The Lasers added two more goals in, both in the first half, as Nikki Pignone (Ipswich, Mass.) scored in the 29th minute after receiving a feed from Leah Sullivan (Mansfield, Mass.) on the left side. In the 33rd minute, Samantha Taylor (Hanover, Mass.) scored her 10th goal of the season to put the Lasers up 4-0 entering halftime, and held the result thereafter.

With just over two minutes left in the game, the Pilgrims had their best opportunity to score on a penalty corner play, but Ali Oullette's (Saco, Maine) shot was stopped by Lasell goaltender Brianna Kulvete (Templeton, Mass.). Counterpart Denise Landry (New Milford, Conn.) earned the win in net for Lasell, her 10th of the season. Both seniors had one save in the outing.

NEC's Michaela Clark (Dorchester, Mass.) finished with 11 saves, including four-in-a-row in the final seconds of the game.

Lasell will resume a non-conference contest on Thursday, playing out 38-and-a-half minutes with MIT beginning at 6:00 p.m. The Pilgrims resume action on the same day, facing Gordon at 5:00 p.m.
