AMCATS Slide Past Field Hockey In Overtime 3-2

PAXTON – An overtime goal scored by Kaitlyn Moran (Leicester, Mass.) lifted the AMCATS to a 3-2 victory over the Lasers of Lasell College on Thursday night. The game winner was in the first minute of overtime play and was Moran's second of the game and 17th of the season.

The loss drops the Lasers to 6-4 overall and 1-2 in the GNAC, while the win lifts the AMCATS to 5-6 on the season and 2-2 in conference play.

The game remained scoreless for most of the first half until the Lasers capitalized on a scoring opportunity with just under two minutes on the clock. Lasell stole a 2-0 lead with an early goal in the second half, but The AMCATS never let up as they tallied two goals to send both teams into overtime. AMCAT goalkeeper, Bryanna Tobin (Deep River, Conn.) made a huge save with just seconds remaining in regulation to help bring the team into overtime.

Lasell dominated the first half with 10 shots to Anna Maria's five and seven corners to the AMCAT'S one. The AMCATS took over in the second half recording seven shots to the Lasers five, but the Lasers held the advantage in penalty corners with five to the home team's three.

The game held 0-0 for most of the first half until the Laser's Courtney Braman (Gardner, Mass.) buried the ball behind Tobin with just 1:30 to play in the half. The Lasers came out firing in the second half as Cailin Flannery (Medford, N.J.) tallied their second goal just one minute in off of a pass from Mindy Esposito (Sunderland, Mass.).

The AMCATS showed no mercy as they kept the pressure on in the offensive end. Ten minutes after Lasell scored their second goal, Moran was able to dribble around three defensive players and fire a shot past goalkeeper Denise Landry (New Milford, Conn.). The two teams battled it out in the midfield with back and forth play until the AMCATS broke through and Moran was able to sweep the ball to Nicole Denver (Springfield, Mass.) at the post who tied the game 2-2 with just seven minutes on the clock.

The Lasers were able to get a couple more shots off that were blocked by Tobin and the two teams entered overtime tied 2-2. The Lasers started overtime with possession of the ball, but AMCAT midfielder Jacqueline Lapierre (Worcester, Mass.) was able to steal it back to carry the team into the Laser's defensive end. With just one minute off the clock senior defender Katherine Albro (Leicester, Mass.) found Moran in the circle as Moran ultimately buried the game winner.

Landry posted four save and drops to 6-4 overall while Tobin finished the game with nine saves and improves to 4-4 this season.

The Lasers travel to Simmons on Saturday for a GNAC contest starting at 11:00 AM. Anna Maria will host a Framingham State on October 4th for a 4:00 PM start.
