Four Lasers Score in 4-1 Victory over Elms

NEWTON, Mass. (9/17/16) -- The Lasell College field hockey team got back in the win column on Saturday afternoon, scoring four straight goals to open the game en route to a 4-1, non-conference victory over Elms College at Grellier Field.

Lasell improves to 6-1 on the season with the win, while Elms remains winless at 0-5.

The Lasers had four different goal scorers in the contest. Sophomore Cailin Flannery (Medford, N.J.) was the lone Lasell player with a multi-point game, finishing with a goal and an assist.

Flannery got the scoring going for the home team just 8:08 into the game, converting an unassisted goal off a fast break. She is now tied with freshman Samantha Taylor (Hanover, Mass.) for the team lead in goals with six.

Freshman Grace Duguay (Watertown, Mass.) doubled the Lasers' lead at the 18:33 mark, taking an assist from Taylor for her third goal of the year. Lasell took a 3-0 lead into halftime after sophomore Brittany Fortier (Newport, Vt.) scored off an assist from Flannery less than seven minutes later.

Each team scored a goal in the second half, beginning with Laser freshman Izzy Contois (Conway, Mass.) at 41:02. Contois scored her second goal of the season off one of Lasell's seven second-half penalty corners, taking an assist from freshman Mindy Esposito (Sunderland, Mass.) for a shot from the left side of the net.

Elms broke the shutout bid at 54:20 as sophomore Marissa Mizzone (Orange, Conn.) set up Hayley Omahen (El Cajon, Calif.) on a penalty corner.

Junior goalkeeper Denise Landry (New Milford, Conn.) and freshman Nicole Andriani (West Creek, N.J.) split time in Lasell's net and were faced with just three combined shots on goal. Landry got the decision as she has in each game this season.

Sophomore Jillian Lapponese (Enfield, Conn.) made nine saves for the Blazers. Lasell had a 20-4 advantage in shots on goal in the contest, including 11 in the first half. The Lasers attempted ten corners, to Elms' five.

Lasell returns to action on Tuesday, September 20 for a 6:00 p.m. non-conference contest at Salve Regina. Elms travels to Rivier also on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
