Field Hockey Extends Hot Streak with 4-0 Victory at Clark

WORCESTER, Mass. (9/8/16) – Lasell College continued its hot start to the season with a convincing 4-0 win over Clark University in non-league field hockey action on a sticky Thursday night. The win for the Lasers pushes their overall record to 3-0 and they have now outscored their opponents by a combined score of 9-1.

The Lasers scored two goals in each half en route to the shutout win over the Scarlet and White in the first ever matchup between the two programs.

Samantha Taylor (Hanover, Mass.) got the scoring going in the opening minutes of the game when she deflected in a shot from Mindy Esposito (Sunderland, Mass.) off of a penalty corner.

Lasell doubled their advantage a little more than 20 minutes later when Brittany Fortier (Newport, Vt.) sent a pass from the top of the circle to her right where Cailin Flannery (Medford, N.J.) sent a rocket whizzing past Clark netminder Dani Michaud (Providence, R.I.) for a 2-0 lead going into halftime.

A little less than 15 minutes into the second stanza the visitors were at it again when Taylor sent a cross to Izzy Contois (Conway, Mass.) who had her shot stopped by Michaud, but Taylor was there to scoop up the rebound and flick it up high into the cage at 49:11.

Julia Franzik (Wallingford, Conn.) wrapped up the scoring when she rattled the cage with 1:02 left to play off of a pass from Flannery.

Taylor finished with a pair of goals, including the first of the game and the first to open the second half to assert the Laser offense in each half.

Michaud was strong in between the pipes for the Cougars, turning aside 11 shots – tying her career high.

Clark had an excellent chance to tie the game in the 19th minute when Lauren Mackey (Dublin, N.H.) made her way into the circle but her shot was denied by a diving Denise Landry (New Milford, Conn.).

Both teams return to action on Saturday, September 10. The Lasers will host Rivier University for the conference opener at 12:00 p.m., while the Cougars welcome Western New England at 11:00 a.m.
