JWU Outlasts Field Hockey 1-0 in GNAC First Round

NEWTON, Mass. (10/31/15) – The Lasell College field hockey team fell to the Wildcats of Johnson and Wales University 1-0 in the first round of the Great Northeast Atlantic Conference (GNAC) tournament Saturday afternoon at Grellier Field. The Lasers wrap up their 2015 season at 10-9 while the Wildcats move on in post-season play at 4-14.

Wildcats sophomore Shaina Thompson (Delmar, Del.) delivered the lone goal of the contest at the 22:48 mark off a deflection, netting her third goal of the season.

The Lasers controlled possession for a majority of the contest with 23 shots compared to the Wildcats' five, but sophomore keeper Shannon Yoder (Boyertown, Pa.) stopped all eight shots on frame for the visitors. In the 67th minute, Lasell freshman Julia Franzik (Wallingford, Conn.) had a one-on-one chance on goal that was stymied by Yoder to secure JWU's 1-0 victory.

Lasell sophomore keeper Denise Landry (New Milford, Conn.) recorded one save on net and concludes the season at 9-9 overall, while Yoder moves to 4-13 this season.

The Wildcats will head to Simmons College on Wednesday, November 4 for the GNAC semifinal match, for a game time that has yet to be determined.
