Wilson Hat Trick Shoots Field Hockey Past Chargers 5-2

NEWTON, Mass. (10/28/15)-  The Lasell College field hockey team defeated the Chargers of Colby-Sawyer College 5-2 in a non-conference matchup on a rainy Wednesday afternoon at Grellier Field.  With the win, the Lasers close out their regular season at 10-8, while the Chargers drop to 8-8 overall.

Senior Cristina Wilson (Wilmington, Mass.) – earlier named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference player of the week, paced the Lasers with her first hat trick of the season. Freshman Julia Franzik (Wallingford, Conn.) – the GNAC's rookie of the week – teamed up with freshman Cailin Flannery (Medford, N.J.) for the remainder of the hosts' scoring.

For the Chargers, senior Brittany Grandbois (East Barre, Vt.) opened the game's scoring with her ninth goal of the season, while senior Taylor O'Connor (Franklin, N.H.) ended the game with her third tally of the year.

The Chargers scored first 3:12 into the game when Grandbois collected a rebound from freshman Jordan Teixeira's (Exeter, NH) initial shot. The Lasers fired right back at 5:32, as Wilson put away a rebounded shot from Flannery to knot the game at 1-1.

Following a Franzik goal – assisted by senior Ashlee Pechulis (Westfield, Mass.) - Wilson went on to score two more goals in the winning effort. Flannery wrapped up Lasell's offense with an open net goal from senior Ashley Gleason (Suffield, Conn.) for the 4-2 advantage.

O'Connor netted the final goal of the contest at 67:37 when she deposited a pass from junior Alyson Mullen (Wilder, Vt.), but the Lasers held on for the 5-2 final.

The Lasers dominated the shot count 27-11, and edged the Chargers in penalty corners 7-4.

Sophomore goalkeeper Brianna Kulvete (Templeton, Mass.) recorded her first win of the season (1-0), with three saves in 35 minutes of work, while sophomore Denise Landry (New Milford, Conn.) stopped two shots on net in second-half relief. Chargers senior goalkeeper Jodi Dumayne (Claremont, N.H.) recorded 14 saves, and shifts to 7-8 overall with the setback.

The Lasers will welcome Johnson and Wales University for the first round of GNAC playoffs on Saturday, October 31 at 12:00 p.m. while the Chargers head to Husson University for the NAC semifinal matchup in Bangor, Maine at 4:45 p.m.
