Front Runner St. Joe's (Maine) Tops Field Hockey 2-0

NEWTON, Mass. (10/17/2015) – The Lasell College field hockey team fell short to the Monks of Saint Joseph's College (Maine) 2-0 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Grellier Field. With the loss, the Lasers move to 7-8 overall and 3-2 in conference play while the Monks improve to 10-4 overall and remain at number one in the conference at 5-1.

Monks freshman Michalia Parent (Westborough, Mass.) broke through in the 4th minute of the game as she capitalized from a corner opportunity, netting her 9th goal on the season for a 1-0 lead for the Monks. The visitors struck again in the 57th minute of the game when Freshman Samantha Silva (Laconia, N.H.) put away her 7th goal on the season from a pass sent in by Michalia Parent (Westborough Mass.).

Lasell was outshot 20-9 and had four corner attempts compared to the Monks' nine.

Sophomore keeper Denise Landry falls to 7-8 overall with thirteen saves in the effort, as Monks freshman goalkeeper Megan Baker (Gorham, Maine) earned the shutout and her 7th win of the season with one save on the day.

Prior to today's GNAC contest, the Lasell College community honored its five graduating seniors for their outstanding contributions to the Lasell field hockey program. Seniors Cristina Wilson (Wilmington, Mass.), Ashley Gleason (Suffield, Conn.), Ashlee Pechulis (Westfield, Mass.), Danielle Hottin (North Branford, Conn.) and Francesca Ceppetelli (Enfield, Conn.) have represented the Lasell field hockey program with dedication and leadership, and their presence on the field will truly be missed.

The Lasers return to play at home against Framingham St. for a 4:00 p.m. start on Thursday, October 22nd, while St. Joe's hosts UMaine Farmington at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20th.
